Meet Richard Ennis From Ennis Electric Co.

With two trucks and four employees, Ennis Electric Company was founded and incorporated by John A. Ennis Sr. in 1974. Mr. Ennis Sr. created a reputation for quality work performed on time. Over the years, the company grew and William “Chip” Swab, the company’s first apprentice, became president while Mr. Ennis continued as CEO.  For the next twenty years Chip Swab led the business and developed employees to their fullest potential. John Ennis Sr. retired in 2004 and his eldest son John Ennis Jr., who started in the company as an apprentice, joined Chip Swab in leadership of Ennis Electric Company. Together they developed a management team and set a tempo for continued growth and expanding capabilities while maintaining the highest standards. Chip Swab retired in 2011 and was succeeded by Jonathan Mitz. Ennis Electric now ranks among the largest electrical contractors in the Washington DC region, with about 150 employees.

Ennis Electric Company joined IEC Chesapeake when they were looking for a quality electrical apprenticeship program. Today, more than thirty of their apprentices are enrolled in our program and John Ennis Jr. actively participates in the Apprenticeship Committee as the Chairman. Richard Ennis was serving as the Chairman of the Safety Committee until January of 2014 when he became the Vice President of IEC Chesapeake.

Ennis Electric Company notes the monthly updates and alerts about governmental affairs to be one of the things they love most about being a member of IEC Chesapeake. They also enjoy networking with other companies at IEC Chesapeake events. They are a great opportunity to build business relationships with other members.

Ennis Electric Company won the first IEC Chesapeake Excellence in Safety Award.
