We invite you to learn more about our staff of electrical professionals who deliver on the IEC’s mission:
Grant Shmelzer, Executive Director
Grant Shmelzer oversees all day to day operations, and he is responsible for working with the Board of Directors to run the IEC Chesapeake and IEC Chesapeake Apprenticeship and Training, Inc.
Carey Walker, Director of Membership and Operations
Carey oversees membership needs including legislative, meetings, events, business development and benefits. Additionally, she is responsible for the overall administration of the IEC Chesapeake office staff and volunteers.
Edward Hersl, Education Coordinator
Edward oversees the day-to-day operations for the Apprenticeship Program, including managing schedules, attendances sheets, grades, as well as handling any instructor/apprentice issues. In addition, he does outreach to Career & Technology High Schools and various organizations who promote the electrical trade for Workforce Development.
Amber Leber, Finance & Education Assistant
Amber assists in financial record keeping and the implementation of education. She also supports other departments with various meetings and events for members and students.
Sharon Burley, Administrative Assistant
Sharon handles the office administrative duties, including processing of apprenticeship applications and getting students set up for their classes. She is the first point of contact for all potential new students and members/employers.
Board of Directors
IEC Chesapeake is a member-driven association overseen by a volunteer board of directors. Many talented professionals participate in our organization in volunteer- appointed positions to further our mission of offering quality educational programs, information and services to independent electrical, low voltage and renewable energy contractors throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
