Baltimore City, MD – Stand for Youth, a 501(c)(3) non-profit youth services organization, has secured funding from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) to implement two Pre-Apprenticeship Programs in Baltimore City. The program will be implemented in partnership with Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Chesapeake, Inc. under its new brand, the Global Resource for Academic and Career Excellence (GRACE). Stand for Youth, in partnership with IEC Chesapeake, Inc., will implement an Electrical and Telecommunications Technician Pre-Apprenticeship Program. IEC Chesapeake, Inc. and Stand for Youth expect the Pre-Apprenticeship program to empower Baltimore City residents to successfully apply and secure earn-while-you-learn apprenticeship career opportunities by providing the academic enrichment, career services, workforce development programs and wrap-around services needed. This team effort will allow Baltimore City residents to pursue careers as Electricians or Telecommunications Technicians.
To get the program off the ground, Stand for Youth was recently awarded a $42,380.00 Innovation Grant from DLLR to significantly improve the enrollment of underemployed and/or unemployed residents, veterans, individuals with disabilities and other targeted populations in obtaining earn-while-you-learn career opportunities. More information is expected to be released following a planning session on May 24, 2017, and a Meet and Greet will also be held to educate and inform industry participants about the program in June.
