2026 NEC requirements for Electric Vehicle Charger Installation

This 5-hour continuing education course provides an overview of selected 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements related to electric vehicle power transfer systems and associated electrical installations. The course covers applicable provisions in Articles 625, 702, and 705, as well as load and demand-factor requirements in Articles 220.16, 220.53, and 220.57.

• Article 625 – Electric Vehicle Power Transfer Systems: NEC requirements for EV equipment, installation, and safety.
• Article 702 – Optional Standby Systems: Standby power system requirements and EV-related applications.
• Article 705 – Interconnected Systems: Interconnected power production systems, protection, and utility interaction.
• Article 220.16 – Loads for Additions to Existing Installations: Load calculations and electrical capacity for adding EV equipment.
• Article 220.53 – Demand Factors: Demand-factor provisions and electrical load calculations.
• Article 220.57 – EVSE Loads: EVSE load calculations, nameplate ratings, and service-load considerations

Students will need to bring their 2023 NEC.  This class is approved for the following CEUs:

• MD- 5 Hrs
• NJ- 5 Hrs
• DE- 5 Hrs
• NC- 4 Hrs 

Cost: Standard Flat Fee $450.00

Attendees may be eligible for class fee reimbursement if meet one of the following criteria:  

• Attendee lives in Howard County.
• Attendee’s company is based in Howard County.
• Attendee’s company Serves Howard County.

The reimbursement form will be provided upon enrollment.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Jack N. Wilson is a seasoned executive, Master Electrician, business owner, and public servant with more than 40 years of experience in electrical construction, infrastructure, and government administration. He serves as a County Commissioner for Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, and President of the Upper Shore Regional Council. In the private sector, he is Senior Estimator and Project Designer for Blue Whale EV and Owner of JTW Building Services, LLC. Wilson holds multiple Master Electrician licenses, a Maryland Master HVAC License, and NICET Level II certification. A strong advocate for workforce development and apprenticeship, he previously chaired the Maryland State Electrical Board.
